During a multi-agency K9 training exercise in Pinebluff, North Carolina, a working K9 sustained a deep puncture wound after striking a steel sewer lid. The injury occurred underneath the dog’s ballistic vest and resulted in heavy active bleeding.
After locating the wound, the handler immediately deployed Hemoseal that had been issued by the department. According to the report, the product quickly adhered to the wound and surrounding fur and rapidly controlled the bleeding.
The handler then faced a 13-mile drive to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic, where the K9 ultimately required surgery and stitches. Hemoseal’s immediate effectiveness helped stabilize the dog until veterinary care could be reached.
